Qualcomm Denies Reports It Is Net Payer After Multi-Year Huawei Patent Deal; Says Not Related To Logic-Folding Chip Tech

MT Newswires Live

On Oct. 5 Huawei said it had reached a multi-year, wide-ranging patent licence agreement with Qualcomm covering cross-licences in 5G, computing, AI and networking, and that Qualcomm would acquire certain U.S. patents from Huawei in computing, AI and networking.

The parties did not disclose deal value, patent counts or commercial terms. Market reports suggested Qualcomm would be the net payer and that the transaction involved so-called logic-folding chip technology.

Qualcomm on Oct. 6 said those reports were inaccurate, confirmed the agreement is long-term and broad but confidential on specifics, denied any link to logic-folding chip technology, and confirmed it has agreed to acquire some of Huawei’s U.S. non‑cellular patents in the stated technology areas.
