Market Overview

The Hang Seng Index (HSI) opened on a strong footing, rising 1.00% to 24,279.63 and holding above the psychologically important 24,000 mark. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (HSCEI) gained 0.99% to 8,131.19, while the broader market barometer, the Hang Seng Tech Index (HSTECH), advanced 1.02% to 4,226.38, extending its rebound beyond the 4,200 level. Overall sentiment at the bell was positive, with early buying concentrated in heavyweight growth counters.

Gains were most pronounced across internet platforms, electric-vehicle makers and selected biotech stocks, setting an upbeat tone. Property names were mixed, while defensives such as utilities and insurers lagged the risk-on rotation. With no major macro headlines, traders focused on company-specific catalysts and ongoing sector re-rating themes.

Opening Summary

The Hang Seng Index crossed back above 24,000 at the start of trade, buoyed by broad-based buying across heavyweight sectors. The 1% pop in the HSI and near-parallel move in the HSCEI signal improving risk appetite, while the Hang Seng Tech Index’s climb past 4,200 underscores firmer sentiment toward growth counters.

Internet majors set the early pace. Alibaba added nearly 3% to lead blue chips, with Baidu, Meituan and JD.com all up about 1–2%. Tencent and NetEase followed, while Xiaomi and Lenovo saw modest gains, indicating investors’ preference for platform and AI-linked names.

Outside the megacaps, biotech and consumer staples stirred interest. Qiyunshan Food spiked almost 10%, topping the gainers board, and Ascentage rose nearly 7%. Conversely, a leveraged SK Hynix product slid almost 6%, and property-services name Evergrande Services dropped more than 2%, highlighting selective pressure in financial derivatives and property servicers.

With sector performance data muted at the outset, traders are watching whether today’s early tech-led strength can broaden to cyclical counters. No major macro headlines crossed in early trade, leaving corporate updates and positioning ahead of the upcoming mainland Golden Week consumption data as the primary drivers.
