In Xiamen Torch High-tech Zone's Gaoxin Plaza, a regional university technology transfer and transformation center is operating efficiently.
Multiple university research achievements, including perovskite-silicon tandem photovoltaic technology, are accelerating toward industrialization here, strongly driving the upgrading of local leading industries such as new display and integrated circuits.
Xu Yixu, deputy director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Office of the Xiamen Torch High-tech Zone Management Committee, said in a recent interview that China's Ministry of Education approved the construction of a national university regional technology transfer and transformation center in Fujian last December, with two distinctive sub-centers in Xiamen for optoelectronic display and marine hydrogen energy.
At present, the two sub-centers have stockpiled more than 460 university research achievements and landed more than 30 projects.
"Universities are responsible for innovation and research from 0 to 1, the transfer and transformation center realizes the leap from 1 to 10 and promotes research achievements into entrepreneurial projects, while the high-tech zone's industrial incubation system helps enterprises grow stronger from 10 to 100," Xu said.
He added that the center has introduced a one-stop service platform to provide supporting services for university entrepreneurial teams so they can "transform upon arrival and accelerate upon landing."
On September 28, Wei Wen, general manager of Xiamen Qihang Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd., introduced the company's products in Xiamen.
In June this year, Xiamen Qihang Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd., incubated by the Tan Kah Kee Innovation Laboratory led by Xiamen University, moved into the marine hydrogen energy sub-center.
The company focuses on electricity-hydrogen coupling equipment technology that can effectively reduce hydrogen production costs.
Wei Wen, the company's general manager, said the company relies on top teams and experimental platforms from Xiamen University and the Tan Kah Kee Laboratory, spans multiple disciplines such as chemistry, electrical engineering and materials, and brings the latest academic achievements into its research and development system.
"Xiamen has obvious location advantages. The narrow-channel effect of the Taiwan Strait brings abundant offshore wind power resources that can be effectively converted into hydrogen energy, and hydrogen energy industry subsidy policies also fit our business direction," Wei said.
While "1 to 10" boosts the industrialization of university research achievements, "10 to 100" tests the endurance of industrial incubation.
Since 2014, Xiamen Torch High-tech Zone has begun cultivating EPIWORLD (ASX: 02726), a leading silicon carbide epitaxial wafer company, and has supported it many times at critical stages.
In March this year, the company listed on Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited.
Zhao Jianhui, chairman of EPIWORLD (ASX: 02726), said the company led the formulation of the world's first international SEMI standard for silicon carbide epitaxy.
Currently, the development of AIDC (artificial intelligence data centers) is opening up growth space for silicon carbide, and the company is deeply binding itself to its core supply chain to seize this industrial high ground.
On September 28, Zhao Jianhui, chairman of EPIWORLD (ASX: 02726), described the company's development history in Xiamen.
The ecosystem of "investment accompaniment plus platform transformation" is attracting more and more university projects to land in Xiamen.
Xiamen Hengguangnian Technology Co., Ltd. settled in the optoelectronic display sub-center in 2025 and landed in Tong'an, Xiamen. Its core product is low-power, highly integrated optical computing chips.
Li Qiang, deputy general manager of the company, said Xiamen's optoelectronic industry is mature, with many application scenarios and a complete industrial chain. The Torch High-tech Zone can not only help enterprises calibrate product planning but also provide corresponding financial support and cooperation opportunities.
According to statistics, Xiamen Torch High-tech Zone has now gathered more than 40,000 enterprises, including more than 2,000 national-level high-tech enterprises.
