Stellantis (STLA) and Polestar Automotive (PSNY) shares were up in Wednesday's premarket activity after Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that the European Union may impose import restrictions on Chinese hybrid cars.

The European Commission is preparing "safeguard measures" to limit the number of Chinese hybrid vehicles that enter the bloc, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The European Commission views hybrids as a test case and may also impose similar restrictions on other sectors with trade imbalances, the report added.

Stellantis shares were up 1.7%, while Polestar added 4.1% in Wednesday's premarket activity.

The European Commission declined to comment.
