US equity indexes fell ahead of the release of the Federal Reserve's September meeting minutes and the results of a 10-year government bond auction.
The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.5% to 27,466.7, the S&P 500 declined 0.3% to 7,794.1 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.6% to 51,180.2 after midday on Wednesday.
The Fed is scheduled to release the minutes at 2 pm ET, which investors will parse to assess the path ahead for monetary policy.
The Treasury will announce competitive bids at 1 pm ET for an August 2036 maturity note, targeting $39 billion in borrowing. On Sept. 9, a sale of the same amount of 10-year government bonds showed a high yield of about 4.83% and a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.71. The 10-year yield traded 3.2 basis points higher to 5.30% after midday, its strongest level since 2002.
Consumer expectations for one-year US inflation grew to 3.9% in September from 3.6% in the previous month, data from a New York Federal Reserve Bank survey showed. The median inflation expectations climbed to 3.3% from 3.2% over three years but remained at 3.0% for five years ahead.
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil contract rose 0.4% to $89.84 per barrel, and global benchmark Brent jumped 1.3% to $101.91 per barrel.
SpaceX (SPCX) is seeking to raise about $40 billion in financing led by Apollo Global Management to buy Nvidia (NVDA) chips, the Financial Times reported Tuesday.
