Alphabet's (GOOGL, GOOG) Google DeepMind, Meta (META), and Isomorphic Labs are collectively investing $300 million in Biohub's Virtual Biology Initiative to build datasets for artificial intelligence models to predict and treat disease, Biohub said Wednesday.

The investments will be used to create technologies and multi-modal datasets to enable the global scientific community to build and use AI models, allowing researchers to ask, predict, and answer biological questions digitally, Biohub said.

Biohub added that the US Department of Energy will invest more than $500 million over five years in lab measurement, modeling and computation towards the initiative.

Additionally, the US National Institutes of Health will coordinate the contribution of relevant datasets, repositories, and knowledge bases developed through over $500 million in prior similar federal initiatives, Biohub said.
