Australian Vanadium (ASX:AVL) secured an Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) assessment certificate for a key industrial chemical component of vanadium electrolyte, advancing the regulatory pathway for its planned industrial-scale electrolyte production in Australia, according to a Tuesday filing with the Australian bourse.

The certificate permits the company to import or manufacture the assessed chemical within specified annual limits, potentially supporting electrolyte production for around 2.5-gigawatt-hour of vanadium flow battery capacity, per the filing.

The chemical is expected to be added to the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals after five years, subject to statutory provisions, while other parties must independently comply with AICIS requirements or obtain an assessment certificate, the filing said.

The company has also obtained a separate AICIS assessment certificate for vanadium trioxide, which could be used as a raw material in its electrolyte production process, the filing added.

The company's fell past 4% in recent Tuesday trade.
