Australian Dwelling Approvals Fall in August, Final ABS Data Shows

The total number of dwellings approved in Australia fell 6.1% to 16,953 in August in seasonally adjusted terms, according to final figures released Wednesday by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

The total dwelling units approved saw an over 10% increase compared with last year.

The final figures were unchanged from the preliminary data.

Private sector houses rose 3.7% to 10,885, while private sector dwellings, excluding houses, fell past 21% to 5,674.

The value of total residential building fell 0.6% in August to AU$11.3 billion, while the value of total non-residential building fell nearly 45% to AU$5.53 billion.
