Thai Central Bank Likely to Remain on Prolonged Hold

0818 GMT - The Bank of Thailand could hold its policy rate at 1.00% at least through end-2027, UOB economists say in a note. The BOT kept its rate unchanged in August and its subsequent minutes emphasized that further policy easing outside a crisis would deliver limited additional benefits. Thailand's growth also remains low and uneven, and inflation is expected to accelerate temporarily, the economists say. "We interpret this combination as support for an extended hold--not a signal that rates have bottomed out or that tightening is approaching," UOB adds. The BOT is scheduled to meet Oct. 28.
