Singapore Shares Open Higher as Weak US Jobs Data Eases Rate Hike Fears

Singapore shares opened the week on a positive note, lifted by weaker-than-expected US employment figures that eased expectations of further Federal Reserve rate hikes.
The Straits Times Index opened 15.46 points, or 0.27%, higher on Monday at 5,650.28.
Market sentiment was buoyed after US hiring significantly missed forecasts in September, adding just 29,000 nonfarm payrolls. Wage increases also decelerated during the month, lowering the pressure on the US central bank to raise interest rates.
