Toyota Motor (TM) is recalling about 31,000 vehicles in the US, involving certain model year 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid units, because a fault in an electronic control unit can shut down the plug-in hybrid system while driving, it said on Wednesday.

The shutdown can cause a loss of motive power at higher speeds, increasing the risk of a crash, the company said.

Toyota said owners will be notified by early December and the dealers will update the software of the affected electronic control unit at no cost.
